In 1908, the small town of Cornith was founded. It was located 23 miles northwest of Hardin and grew up around the Chicago, Burlington & Quincy Railroad line. The store was built in 1918 with living quarters in the back and eventually became the Post Office. The post office boxes are original and were in the store when it was moved to our location in 1986.

The Fly Inn was a cafe and filling station built between Hardin and Billings. This building was built in 1937 to meet the needs of travelers on the newly paved 50 mile stretch of road. The gas station closed down in 1958 after the interstate followed a different route. Maps, sodas and other items needed to meet the needs of travelers are shown in the filling station exhibit. The Fly Inn was moved to the museum grounds in 1986. |
