The slaughterhouse , originally owned by the Goerings, was located near the Bighorn River, south of the railroad bridge. Later it was moved to John and Grace Goering's farm east of Hardin. In 2000, the slaughterhouse was donated to BHCM, and moved to its present location.

The slaughterhouse features the original winch and gambrels used to hang the meat. The papier-maché carcasses made by the Hardin HS Art Department add a touch of reality to the restored meat market.
