Camp Custer Motel was built in 1927, east of Hardin on the old "Custer Hiway" by Jake and Peral Linthacum. The facility featured all the modern conveniences: four small cabins, office and restaurant combination, and a washroom/shower house.

Eventually more buildings were added, until there were fourteen cabins.

The original cabins were donated and moved to the museum in 2001 and an endowment by Darrell and Donnel Linthacum made the restoration possible.
