The farmhouse was built on-site in 1911, about five years after this part of Montana was opened for homesteading and about ten years after the military abandoned Fort Custer. The farmhouse contains a collection of items from the turn of the 20th century.
The barn, built in 1916, is also part of the original homestead. It now houses a blacksmith shop, horse tack, and antique hand tools.
The LaForge Cabin was NOT part of the original farm site.
The LaForge cabin, was built by Thomas LaForge in Lodge Grass and was moved to the museum in 1981. The cabin was built in the early 1900's and contains only the absolute necessities needed to make it a home.
